WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL Special County Council November 29, 2004 Council Chair Dan McShane called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 311 Grand Avenue, Bellingham, Washington. Present: Barbara Brenner Laurie Caskey- Schreiber Sam Crawford Seth Fleetwood Sharon Roy Absent: L. Ward Nelson 1. COUNCIL TO INTERVIEW CANDIDATES FOR THE POSITION OF INTERIM DISTRICT COURT JUDGE (AB2004 -359) The Whatcom County councilmembers held four 20- minute interviews on November 29, 2004 with interim District Court Judge applicants: David Rhea, Warren Page, Lee Grochmal, and David Grant. The same questioner asked the following questions of each candidate in identical order: 1. Laurie Caskey- Schreiber - What do you believe are the central attributes of a good judge? 2. Sharon Roy - Why do you believe you possess those qualities and what experience do you possess that demonstrates those qualities? 3. Barbara Brenner - What ideas do you have for office and caseload management of the district court? 4. Seth Fleetwood- What is the most cost effective thing the County could do to maintain or enhance the effectiveness of the district court? 5. Sam Crawford - What role should district court judges have in regards to establishing budget priorities with the County Council and the law and justice system in the County? Motion carried unanimously.
