WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL
Public Works and Safety Committee
December 8, 2009
Committee Chair Barbara Brenner called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. in the
Council Chambers, 311 Grand Avenue, Bellingham, Washington.
Present: Barbara Brenner, Laurie Caskey- Schreiber, and L. Ward Nelson.
Absent: None
COMMITTEE DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO COUNCIL
1. RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SALE OF AN EASEMENT BY WHATCOM
COUNTY TO BURLINGTON NORTHERN SANTA FE RAILROAD COMPANY
(AB2009 -494)
Nelson moved to recommend approval to the full Council.
Joe Rutan, Public Works Department, gave a staff report.
Steve Oliver, Treasurer, stated members of the Property Management Committee
feel this item should go before the Council.
Discussion included the reason for the request and whether the County owns the
property.
The motion carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Brenner, Nelson and Caskey- Schreiber (3)
Nays: None (0)
Dan Gibson, Prosecutor's Office, stated this item raised a procedural issue. He asked
if the Council wants to see these things or not.
Brenner stated she doesn't need to see transfers of rights -of -way, but she does want
to see vacations.
