ROLL CALL (2:34:07 PM) Present: Barbara Brenner and Pete Kremen. Absent: Ken Mann. COMMITTEE DISCUSSION 1. DISCUSSION REGARDING A PROPOSED ORDINANCE CLOSING A PORTION OF BOUNDARY ROAD (AB2013 -202) Joe Rutan, Public Works Department, stated this is just to make sure that everyone knows what's going on out there. It does affect people out there. Some people will have to take a different route. The County received a letter from the Washington State Department of Transportation, which is doing a project at the Lynden-Alderg rove Port of Entry. They request closing a portion of Boundary Road as shown on Council packet page 526. Patrick Fuller, Washington State Department of Transportation (DOT), stated Canada customs decided to upgrade its facility. The State will expand State Route 539 for northbound traffic. They will add a truck lane between H Street and the border, a general purpose lane, and a Nexus lane. The proposed plan is to shift the Guide Meridian to the east, and cross the border on the east side of the duty free buildings. The State highway will occupy a portion of the current County road, East Boundary Road. The traffic will be one -way as it goes to the border. Leaving the road open creates operational issues, so they propose closing it. Rutan stated this item will have a public hearing on July 9. The last item like this was the Garrison Road closure, done at the request of the DOT. Brenner stated this is fine with her. OTHER BUSINESS There was no other business.
