This project is fisted as Item No. 11 on the 2001 Annual Construction Budget that was adopted by Council
on November 14, 2000. Due to changes in storm sewer construction, additional funds are needed to
complete the project
The original project scope included a structural overlay for the entire length of 0.8 miles, and storm sewer
system upgrades in the developed area of the project. Existing system deficiencies were discovered during
the construction effort, with portions of the existing stomt sewer system needing replacement. In addition,
the Maintenance and Operations Division needed to implement some improvements to an existing Point
Whitehom drainage system at the end of Koehn Road. All this work was added as change order items to
the Alderson Road Structural Overlay Project.
In doing so, the additional construction costs will exceed 10 percent of the contract amount. We therefore
request that the Council authorize the expenditure of an additional $99,951 toward the completion of this
project. This will raise the authorized construction contract amount to $599,312.50, and raise the total
project budget to $674,312.50.
Sufficient funds exist within the annual construction program budget to cover this additional expense.

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ADDITIONAL COUNTY ROAD
CONSTRUCTION FUND AUTHORIZATION FOR
COUNTY ROAD PROJECT NO. 900911
ALDERSON ROAD SRUCTURAL OVERLAY
WHEREAS, Whatcom County Resolution 2001 -036 authorized the total project expenditure of
$574,361.50 for road improvements on the Alderson Road Structural Overlay Project, with
$499,361.50 designated for the construction contract with Stremler Gravel, Incorporated, and;
WHEREAS, additional drainage work beyond the original scope of the contract is necessary to
complete the project;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council hereby authorizes the
additional expenditure of $99,951.00 for the completion of these required construction
improvements and total project expenditures of $674,312.50.
