M01 -042 SUPPORTING WASHINGTON STATE ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES TIMBER ANALYST /COORDINATOR POSITION WHEREAS, counties with federal timber resources desire assistance regarding the implementation of PL 106 -393 and in relations with the U.S. Forest Services; and WHEREAS, there is a need to provide staff support to the county representative on the Board of Natural Resources and the Forest Practices Board; and WHEREAS, counties have participated in the past and wish to participate more fully in the future in Timber Fish Wildlife; and WHEREAS, counties with state trust lands have expressed the desire to monitor implementation of the Habitat Conservation Plan for DNR trust lands; and WHEREAS, there are increasing opportunities to provide technical support to WSAC policy staff working on timber issues and watershed management, particularly in forested watersheds; and WHEREAS, the Timber Counties of Washington in a meeting on June 14, 2001, voted to recommend that each county with state or federal timber revenue contribute to fund this position. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council commits to provide funds to the Washington State Association of Counties for a Timber Analyst /Coordinator position in the amount of $2,768 - $2,829 annually (specific amount to be determined after the allocation method for PL 106 -393 funds is chosen), adjusted for inflation, for the remaining five years of the PL 106 -393 project authority.
