(Y /N) N Requested Date: Whatcom County Charter Section 4.41 states that the County Council shall appoint a Districting Committee who shall then appoint a Districting Master to draw the districting plan for the county. This is to be done during the month of January every ten years. This year the Districting Committee consisted of Todd Gunn, Les Reardanz, Erik Konstad, Darlene McLeod, and Henry Bierlink (Chairperson). The District Master was Terry Unger. The Districting Committee unanimously voted to approve the attached districting plan. The Plan was filed with the County Auditor on May 11, 2001. This ordinance amends the Whatcom County Code Chapter 1.12 to redraw the County Council districts as approved in the 2001 Plan. On September 14 the Districting Committee met and voted to uphold their previous decision on the Districting Plan. The Plan has been presented to the County Auditor and is final. The attached ordinance changes the WCC to reflect the changes made by the Districting Committee. COLWCIL ACTION TAKEN: 2001 - 45 A 5/15/2001: Introduced noon and action to 5/29/2001: Held to 6/5 Public Hearing @ be taken at 6/12 regular meeting 6/5/2001: Council approved sending whole issue back to Districting Committee 10/9/2001: Introduced 10/23/2001: Adopted 7 -0, Ord. #2001-052 Related File Numbers: Ordinance or Resolution Number (this item only): o�.� Zcol - osti SPONSORED BY: Consent PROPOSED BY: County Auditor INTRODUCTION DATE: May 15, 2001 ORDINANCE NO, 2001 -052 AMENDING WHATCOM COUNTY CODE CHAPTER 1.12, COUNCIL DISTRICT BOUNDARIES WHEREAS, the County shall be divided into three districts so that each district shall comprise, as nearly as possible, one -third of the population of the County; and WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Districting Committee convened for the purpose of reviewing the boundaries of the County Council Districts; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Whatcom County Charter Section 4.42, the Districting Committee adopted a District Plan which became effective upon filing with the Whatcom County Auditor on September 21, 2001; and WHEREAS, Whatcom County Code, Chapter 1.12 contains legal descriptions that set the Council boundaries on May 28, 1991 and now need to be revised. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that Whatcom County Code Chapter 1.12, Council Boundaries Districts shall be deleted in its entirety and replaced by Exhibit "A" to this ordinance.
