Preamble: The existing Interim Zoning Ordinance is due to expire on July 15, 1980. The Whatcom County Council has before it an Ordinance extending that interim zoning Ordinance to July 15, 1982. However, the Council will not be able to approve that Ordiinance in time to have the existing interim Ordinance con- tinually in effect; therefore, an emergency Ordinance is necessary.to cover a gap in time during whi th the County would be without a Zoning Ordinance if this Ordinance were not adopted on an emergency basis. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED: SECTION 1: The Interim.Zoning Ordinance adopted pursuant to R.C.W. 36.70.790 on July 6; 1972, is extended to apply until July 22, 1980. The Council finds that an emergency exists which makes the extension necessary. The Council also finds that the What:com County Planning Commission is in good faith conducting studies and holding hearings for the purpose of formulating a permanent zoning plan. SECTION 2: Council finds that this Ordinance is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety, or support of the County government. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage. SECTION 3: The emergbnc�i.situiation which requires this Ordinance to go into effect immediately is that the .Interim Ordinance adopted July 6, 1972 will expire prior to the time the extension of that Zoning Ordinance will take effect, thus leaving a gap in time during which the:County would be- without a zoning Ordinance.
