HomeMy WebLinkAboutord1982-08611 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 DATE: November 4, 1982 INTRODUCED BY: Van Zanten PROPOSED BY: Council ORDINANCE NO. 82 -86 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 82 -68 IMPOSING A SALES AND USE TAX PURSUANT TO R.C.W. 82.14.030(2) WHEREAS, Whatcom County has imposed a sales and use tax pur- suant to the provisions of R.C.W. 82.14.030(2); and, WHEREAS, it is necessary to amend the language providing for the special initiative as per the Department of Revenue memo of November 3, 1982 and the Attorney General's opinion of October 28, 1982; and, WHEREAS, it is necessary to amend the effective date of said ordinance in order to correspond with the date such taxes are remitted to the State; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL that Ordinance No. 82 -68 is hereby amended as follows: Section 9. Pursuant to State Law (Chapter 49, Section 19, Laws of 1982, First Extraordinary Session), there is hereby created a special initiative. Any legal voter, or organization of legal voters of Whatcom County, may file a special initiative proposal against this Ordinance with the County Auditor. Thereafter, the procedure implementing the special initiative shall conform to the require- ments for initiatives set forth in the County'Home Rule Charter, Section 5.40. Section 10. This Ordinance shall become effective on July 1, 1983, provi the removal of the State sales tax upon food takes place in June, 1983, and in accordance with the quarterly tax collection schedule of the State.
