DATE July 1, 1982
INTRODUCED BY 'Van Zanten
PROPOSED BY Planning
ORDINANCE No. 82--42
AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE EXTENDING THE EXISTING INTERIM
ZONING ORDINANCE, ADOPTED ON JULY 6, 1972 TO JULY 261 082.'
Preamble: The existing Interim Zoning Ordinance is due to expire on July
15,1 $T.— The Whatcom County Council has before it an Ordinance ex-
tending that interim zoning Ordinance to July 15, 1984. However, the
Council will not be able to approve that Ordinance in time to have the
existing interim Ordinance continually in effect; therefore, an emergency
Ordinance is necessary to cover a gap in time during which the County
would be without a Zoning Ordinance if this Ordinance were not adopted
on an emergency basis.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED:
SECTION 1: The Interim Zoning Ordinance adopted pursuant to R.C.W.
36.70.790 on July 6, 1972, is extended to apply until Jill-Y,2 (P1 l9fc The Council finds
that an emergency exists which makes the extension necessary. The Council also finds
that the Whatcom County Planning Commission is in good faith conducting studies and
holding hearings for the purpose of formulating a permanent zoning plan.
SECTION 2: Council finds that this Ordinance is necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, health, safety, or support of the County govern-
ment. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage.
SECTION 3: The emergency situation which requires this Ordinance to go into
effect. immediately is that the Interim Ordinance adopted July 6, 1972 will expire
prior to the time the extension of that Zoning Ordinance will take effect, thus leaving
a gap in time during which the County would be without a zoning Ordinance. This
emergency Ordinance is necessary to cover that gap in time.
PASSED this 1st day of July, , 1982.
