ORDINANCE NO. 83-66 �h
AN ORDINANCE IN THE MATTER OF
AMENDING THE BUDGET OF WHATCOM
COUNTY FOR THE YEAR 1983 BY
TRANSFERRING $200,000 FROM CURRENT
EXPENSE FUND 501 TO THE COUNTY
ROAD FUND
WHEREAS, the State has established a "rural arterial
program" for the purpose of funding certain improvement projects
on county roads located in rural areas; and,
WHEREAS, receipt of such funds is approved by the
county road administration board at the time the board reviews the
six -year program of each county during each even - numbered year; and,
WHEREAS, only those counties that during the preceding
twelve months have spent all revenues collected for road purpose
only for such purposes, including traffic law enforcement, are
eligible to receive funding under the rural arterial program; and,
WHEREAS, the County Council did authorize a diversion
of a portion of the County road district levy in the amount of
$400,000.00 to the current expense fund, for the budget year of
1983, to be used for the support'of County law enforcement services
in the unincorporated areas of Whatcom County; and,
WHEREAS, it has been determined that $200,000.00 of the
diverted road levy will be required for traffic law enforcement in
1983; and,
WHEREAS, in order to be eligible for the rural arterial
funding, the balance of the diverted funds ($200,000.00) must be
returned to the County Road Fund;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED as follows:
(a) That the Whatcom County Council does hereby
authorize the transfer of $200,000.00 from Current Expense Fund 501
to the County Road Fund, said funds to be expended for road

maintenance purposes; and,
(b) That the other revenues previously diverted to
the Current Expense Fund from the County road levy shall be utilize(
exclusively for traffic law enforcement purposes in a:,-cordance with
the requirements of the rural arterial program.
