ORDINANCE NO. 84 -95
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING A REVISION
FOR THE 1984 CURRENT EXPENSE FUND,
PUBLIC DEFENDER'S BUDGET THEREIN
WHEREAS, appropriations were granted for the 1984 Public Defender's Office to
provide five staff attorneys to be housed in the existing office space
provided; and
WHEREAS, the client case load of the Public Defender's Office presently far
exceeds the national and state service standards that office is
constitutionally mandated to provide; and
WHEREAS, it is the obligation of the County to provide adequate legal
representation for indigent criminal defendants in Whatcom County; and
WHEREAS, in order to fulfill its service mandate the Public Defender's Office!
requires the addition of one staff attorney effective October 5, 1984, and the
concommitant office space, furnishings, equipment, telephone installation,
services and office supplies for that attorney; and
WHEREAS, additional office space can be made available as a result of an
interior remodel of the present office space and the building remodel
currently underway by the landlord;
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE ORDAINED, the following revision is hereby approved
for the 1984 Current Expense Fund, Public Defender Budget therein:
