ORDINANCE NO. 84 -90
AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING
AN EMERGENCY CONTINGENCY FUND
WHEREAS, Whatcom County is subject to a variety of disaster - related and other
unanticipated emergencies which require the expenditure of county resources;
and
WHEREAS, these emergency- related expenditures often take precedence over the
normal ongoing maintenance and operating expenditures of certain departments;
and
WHEREAS, ongoing maintenance and operating activities should not be
eliminated, if and when emergencies arise; and
WHEREAS, the 1984 Current Expense Fund, Non - Departmental budget provided for
a $250,000.00 appropriation for emergency contingency; and
WHEREAS, a total of $219,000.00 has been obligated in 1984 for flood repair
work, leaving $39,000.00 unencumbered;
NOW THEREFORE LET IT BE ORDAINED, the Emergency Contingency Fund is hereby
established, and all remaining unencumbered appropriation authority shall be
transferred from the Current Expense Fund, Non - Departmental Contingency
Emergency to the new fund by December 31, 1484. The Emergency Contingency
Fund shall be fund number 149- 000 -001. The transfer shall be to fund balance
and no expenditure shall be made until an appropriation is provided for by
the County Council.
