ORDINANCE NO. 88 -66
AN ORDINANCE EXTENDING THE INTERIM ZONING ORDINANCE UNTIL JULY
15, 1992, AND CORRECTING A CODIFICATION ERROR BY RECODIFYING
THE INTERIM ZONING ORDINANCE TO 2.24A
WHEREAS, pursuant to RCW 36.70.790 Whatcom County has adopted an Interim
Zoning Ordinance; and,
WHEREAS, the County has established permanent zoning in certain
geographic subareas of the County and is in the process of establishing
permanent zoning for the remaining subareas; and,
WHEREAS, the County Planning Agency, in good faith, has conducted and is
conducting studies, and holding hearings, for the purpose of providing
recommendations to the County Council in regard to the adoption of permanent
zoning in those subareas; and,
WHEREAS, the Interim Zoning Ordinance, Chapter 2.24 of the Whatcom County
Code, is scheduled to expire on July 15, 1988; and
WHEREAS, the Interim Zoning Ordinance will expire prior to the
implementation of permanent zoning in all subareas of the County leaving those
subareas without zoning of any kind; and,
WHEREAS, to protect the public safety, health, and general welfare, the
Interim Zoning Ordinance should be extended as an emergency measure; and
WHEREAS, seven major subareas have been adopted, one is nearing
completion and work is beginning on two of the three remaining subareas; and
WHEREAS, the completion date for this planning effort is estimated to be
two years, but will be dependent on other priorities and uncertainty regarding
sovereignty issues on the Lummi Reservation which could take additional time;
WHEREAS, the Interim Zoning Ordinance was originally codified as Chapter
2.24 and subsequently the Boundary Review Board was assigned the same chapter;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that:
1. Pursuant to RCW 36.70.790, the Interim Zoning Ordinance, Chapter 2.24 of
the Whatcom County Code, is hereby extended until July 15, 1992 or until
all of the subarea plans have been adopted including establishing
permanent zoning for each of the subareas, which ever comes first.

2. To rectify the previous codification error the Interim Zoning Code shall
hereby be classified as Chapter 2.24A.
