HomeMy WebLinkAboutord1988-0391 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 INTRODUCED BY: Consent PROPOSED BY: Auditor DATE: April 21, 1988 ORDINANCE NO. 88 -39 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 82 -30 FOR THE PURPOSE OF CREATING WITHIN BELLINGHAM WARD 5 A NEW PRECINCT - NO. 135, AND FOR THE PURPOSE OF ESTABLISHING NEW BOUNDARIES FOR BELLINGIAM WARD 5 PRECINCT NO.'S 35, 45, 55, 65, 85, 95 AND 115 WHEREAS, there 1i as been a .long standing need for a precinct with a polling place easily accessible to the community at Western Washington University; arid, WHEREAS, the Western Washington University campus is currently dissected into three separate precincts with polling places for each located off campus; and, WHEREAS, -the creation of a new precinct - No. 135, would include a portion of the Western Washington community living on campus and permit for the Location of a polling place on campus; and, WHEREAS, R.C.W. 29.04.040 provides that precincts with voting machines or electronic devices may contain a maximum of 900 registered voters; and, WHEREAS, when a precinct exceeds that number they are to be redrawn to bring them within these requirements; and, WHEREAS, precinct No. 115 in Bellingham Ward 5 has historically had an excess of 1,000 regi stered voters in Presidential election years; and, WHEREAS, the creation cif precinct 140 . 135 in Bellingham Ward 5 would eliminate the probability that a precinct in said Ward would exceed 900 registered voters; and, WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council has previously established precinct boundaries though enactment of Ordinance No. 82 -30. - Ordinance - 1. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that: Ordinance No. 82 -30 be and hereby is amended so as to establish new precinct - No. 135, within Bellingham Ward 5 and also to establish new precinct boundaries for the precincts designated as No.'s 35, 45, 55, 65, 85, 95 and 115, as more particularly described in Exhibit "A" which is attached hereto.
