AN ORDINANCE CREATING A NEW PART -TIME MENTAL
6 HEALTH COMMISSIONER.

WHEREAS, Washington Stat.e Laws of 1989, Chapter 174,
8 enacted allows the Superior Court judges to appoint a
part -time or full - time mental health commissioner to hear the

9 cv.i 1. coiaiiii. tment hearings for Whatcom County; and ,
10 WHEREAS, i. Ili s position would be i.n addition to the
recent.,, created full-time commissioner position in that
11 SchedlaIi.ng the newly created commissioner's time for these
mental commitments has proven unworkable; and,

WHEREAS, ibis position is necessary for the efficient
operation of title Superior Court due to the increasing number
Of inental 1.10a1.th commitments wh.i.c.h are rdquiring an ever
14 expanding �imourit. of time for the judges to review; and,
15 WHEREAS, the compensation for this part —time position
is not hr,ing requested as a separately funded position but
16 will be. paid for out of funds already budgeted to the Superior
Court;

18 NOW, TIiEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that there shall be
19 cr.,eated for a thlrty clay period from the effective date of
20 this ordinance, a part -ti me position of Mental Health
21 Cowmi.ssioner to hear the civil commitments for Whatcom County.

23 BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the Superior Court judges
24 ^hall appoint the person to this part -time position and shall
25 dPsignat, t.1].e duties to be performed by 'that person i.n
26 accordance with Chapter 174 of the Washington Law of 1989.
