Yes No /XX� SUMMARY STATEMENT: This ordinance will increase the salary for the board of Equalization members to a level more in line with the increase of responsibilities the Board fulfills. The � version raises the salary to $75 per day, the second version brings the Whatcom County Code in line with present policies ($55 per day). Ordinance or Resolution Number. • ote 10 +77 salincre.ord 8/29 /90 SPONSORED BY; CONSENT amended 10/9/90 PROPOSED BY: Board of Equal INTRODUCTION DATE: 9/4/90 1 2 ORDINANCE NO. 90 -97 3 1 AMENDING CODE 22.1 2 INCREASING THE SALARY FOR THE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION MEMBERS 3 FROM THE PRESENT $50 PER DAY TO $55 PER DAY. 4 WHEREAS, the duties of the Board of Equalization have increased significantly 5 in both the range of duties and the time necessary to fulfill these responsibilities; and 6 WHEREAS, the Board members spend an extensive amount of time on Board 7 duties apart from the hearings themselves, making frequent trips on their own time to 8 inspect petitioned properties, for which they are not paid mileage; and 9 WHEREAS, many other counties are increasing their Board members' salaries in 10 recognition of the increased work load and counties near Whatcom County recently 11 increased Board members' salaries significantly (Skagit: $75 /day, Island; $100 /day); and 12 WHEREAS, the State Department of Revenue supports increased compensation 13 for Board of Equalization members; and 14 WHEREAS, these above listed conditions have existed since before the beginning 15 of the 1990 Board of Equalization session. 16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that Section 2.21.030 of the Whatcom 17 County Code shall be amended as follows: 18 "2.21.030 Compensation for meeting attendance.
