DATE INTRODUCED: 9/11/90 ORDINANCE NO. 90 -94 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING WHATCOM COUNTY CODE, CHAPTER 17 ENTITLED "FLOOD DAMAGE PREVENTION" FOR THE PURPOSE OF INCORPORATING NEW FEDERAL FLOOD MAPS AS REQUIRED BY THE NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM WHEREAS, in 1977, Whatcom County enacted a flood damage prevention ordi- nance pursuant to federal requirements for community participation in the National Flood Insurance Program and WHEREAS, in 1987, Whatcom County amended said ordinance in accordance with mandatory federal guidelines and WHEREAS, at the time of its enactment and amendment, the Ordinance was in compliance with mandatory federal guidelines under the National Flood Insurance Program for local flood damage prevention legislation and WHEREAS, the federal government is adopting an additional flood insurance rate map, including accompanying report dated September 28, 1990, and WHEREAS, participation in the National Flood Insurance Program provides a direct benefit to the community by making flood insurance available at reaso- nable cost and participation in the National Flood Insurance program is a pre- requisite for the use of federal funds for projects in the flood plain. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that the Whatcom County Council does ordain: that Whatcom County Code, Chapter 17.04.050 be amended as follows: 17.04.050 Basis for establishing areas of special flood hazard. The areas of special flood hazard identified by the Federal Insurance Administration are contained in a scientific and engineering report entitled 'The Flood Insurance Study for the County of Whatcom, Washington" (effective date Sept. 30, 1977). The accompanying Flood Insurance Rate Maps, dated Sept. 30, 1977 and Sept. 28, 1990 including accompanying reports and any subsequent amendments made by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, are adopted by reference and declared to be a part of this title. The f flood insurance study is on file at the Department of Public Works. (Ord. dated 9/23/77 Sec. 3.2). BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED THAT unless specifically amended by this ordinance, all other provisions of the flood damage prevention ordinance, Chapter 17, shall remain the same.
