'1 o reduce further damage to the Nooksack Road Bridge No. 508, it has been found necessary to place a 15 ton
weight limit on the bridge due to structural deficiencies. Stop signs should also be installed, stopping traffic as it
enters the bridge to significantly reduce the impact loading caused by vehicles.
ORIGINATOR'S RECOMMENDED ACTION. Recommend approval.

9/14/93: Council introduction
9/28/93: The Clerk noted that Engineering erred in not seeking a hearing for this item,
since as an official control it does require a public hearing. Council adopted an amended
version of this ordinance which elimated all reference to stop signs. An additional
ordinance dealing with the stop signage will be forthcoming.

ORDINANCE NO. 93 -063
AN ORDINANCE REGARDING THE MATTER OF PLACING A
WEIGHT LIMIT ON NOOKSACK ROAD BRIDGE NO. 508
WHEREAS, IN COMPLIANCE WITH WCC 12.06.010 AND 12.06.060, it is found
necessary and expedient to place a weight limit on the Nooksack Road Bridge, No. 508,
over Johnson Creek; and
WHEREAS, an Engineering study has been conducted by the County Engineer's office
and such study has determined that it is necessary to place a 15 -ton weight limit on this
bridge due to structural deficiencies found during the study; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that a 15 -ton weight limit be placed on the
Nooksack Road Bridge No. 508 over Johnson Creek and such controls remain in effect
until such time as bridge No. 508 is replaced and found to be structurally sound.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the County Engineer is
hereby directed to post and maintain appropriate signs and that the Whatcom County
Sheriff and the Washington State Patrol be notified by a copy of this ordinance.
