AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 89 -103, AN ORDINANCE
ESTABLISHING WHATCOM COUNTY FERRY RATES
WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council approved Ordinance No. 89 -103
establishing Whatcom County Ferry rates on November 21, 1989, and
WHEREAS, Whatcom County Public Works Division of Engineering has determined
heavy. truck traffic is causing excessive wear on the ferry dock aprons, and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of Whatcom County to
implement a surcharge on heavy truck traffic to provide for the extraordinary
maintenance of the ferry dock aprons,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that Ordinance No. 89 -103 is hereby amended
to add the following miscellaneous provision:
MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS
H) A surcharge of $10 per round trip shall be charged on vehicles with
a licensed gross vehicle weight equal to or greater than 36,001
pounds. The surcharge is designated for dock maintenance and
therefore will not be included in ferry fare revenue for purposes of
determining the percentage of annual cost of ferry operations
supported by fares'.
