An Engineering study was conducted by the County Engineer's office. It was found that the parking lot to the
Meridian High School addition has been extended so that the existing school zone does not encompass the entire area
affected and it was determined that the speed limit of 20 mph should be established on this portion of West Laurel
Road from 600 feet west of the Guide Meridian to 1800 feet west of the Guide Meridian.

1 ORDINANCE NO. 94 -065
2 AN ORDINANCE REGARDING ESTABLISHING SPEED LIMITS
3 ON CERTAIN COUNTY ROADS
4 WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council is authorized under RCW 46.61.415 to
5 establish speed limits on certain County roads; and
6 WHEREAS, an engineering study was conducted by the County Engineer's
7 office and was found the parking lot to the Meridian High School addition has been
8 extended so that the existing school zone does not encompass the entire area, affected;
9 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that
10 the school zone and speed limit be established as follows:
11 20 mph on West Laurel Road from 600 feet West to 4;600 1,800 feet West of
12 State Route 539, within Section 24, Township 39 North, Range 2 East of W.M.
13 BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the County Engineer is hereby directed to
14 move the appropriate signs and that the Whatcom County Sheriff and the Washington
15 State Patrol be notified by a copy of this ordinance.
16 Provisions of this ordinance are hereby ammended to Whatcom County Code,
17 Section 10.04.095.
