(with amendments) Related File Numbers: Ordinance or Resolution Number (this item only).-Ord 94 -055 lowellyd.ord 6/3/94 SPONSORED BY: consent AB94 -212A PROPOSED BY: Brenner INTRODUCTION DATE: 6114.194 1 ORDINANCE NO. 94 -055 2 REGARDING THE CLOSURE OF A PORTION OF LOWELL AVENUE 3 WHEREAS, Lowell Avenue at its intersection with York Street has been 4 barricaded for approximately 15 years; and 5 WHEREAS, Lowell Avenue appears to be a dead -end street as evidenced by a 6 dead end sign at the corner of Lakeway Drive and Lowell Avenue; and 7 WHEREAS, the width of the street is only eighteen feet with no shoulders, and 8 WHEREAS, there are approximately more that 55 children on the small quarter 9 mile stretch; and 10 WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the public health, safety and welfare to 11 officially close the road at the barricade; and 12 WHEREAS, the previous safety issue competes with or exceeds any other safety 13 issues given for opening the road; 14 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that Page 1 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Lowell Avenue at its intersection with York Street will be closed, and the County Engineer is directed to install the appropriate signs. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that upon adoption of this ordinance the Clerk will notify What -Comm 9 -11, the County Sheriff, the County Engineer and the Washington State Patrol and the local fire jurisdiction.
