With the adoption of this ordinance the Whatcom County Council hereby exempts Whatcom County from the
prohibitions outlined in Subsection 4 of Section 405 of Chapter 7 of the Washington Laws, 1994 First Special
Session.

2 EXEMPTING WHATCOM COUNTY FROM PROVISIONS
3 . OF THE STATE'S FIREARMS LAWS

5 WHEREAS, the Washington State Legislature enacted a law in its 1994 special
6 session that revises Section 9.41.050 of the Revised Code of Washington; and
7
8 WHEREAS, that newly - enacted law is found in Chapter 7 Section 405 of the 1994
9 pamphlet of Washington Laws enacted in the 1st special session of the Fifty -Third
10 Legislature; and

12 WHEREAS, Subsection 4 of Section 405 places restrictions on the transportation
13 and use of firearms; and
14
15 WHEREAS, Subsection 6 allows any city, town or county to enact an ordinance to
16 exempt itself from the prohibition of Subsection 4;
17
18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that
19 Whatcom County hereby exempts itself from the prohibitions outlined in Subsection 4 of
20 Section 405 of Chapter 7 of the Washington Laws, 1994 First Special Session; and
21
22 BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the Clerk will send a copy of this adopted
23 ordinance to the Whatcom County Prosecutor, Whatcom County Public Defender,
24 Whatcom County Sheriff, What -Comm 911, and the Washington State Patrol.

Whatcom County's Home
Rule Charter Section
2.30, states: "If the
Executive does not either
sign or veto an ordinance
within ten (10) days,
Saturdays, Sundays, and
Holidays excepted, after
presentation of the
ordinance by the Council,
it shall become law
without the Executive's
signature." This ordinance
shall take effect as of July
22, 1994.
