A citizen has petitioned the. Whatcom County Council for the formation of a no shooting zone in the Nelson
Road Area. The legal description of the area follows: The east half of Section 17, township 38 north, range
5 east of W.M., except the south 300 feet thereof. All in Whatcom County, Washington.
ORIGINATOR'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Citizen recommends that the Council take steps necessary to create a no- shooting zone in the Nelson Road
Area.

1 ORDINANCE NO. 94-013
2 CREATING A NO SHOOTING ZONE IN THE NELSON ROAD AREA
3 WHEREAS, a citizen has petitioned the Whatcom County Council for the formation of
4 a no- shooting zone in the established residential area known as the Nelson Road Area; and
5 WHEREAS, the petitioner has submitted the following to the council: Signatures of at
6 least sixty percent of persons owning property within the proposed boundaries of the zone; legal
7 description of the proposed boundaries of the no- shooting zone; a. map showing the proposed
8 boundaries; cover letter explaining the reasons petitioner would like the no- shooting zone to be
9 formed, a history of-shooting violations in the area, the name, address, and phone numbers of a
10 person who will act as liaison with -the county council concerning the proposed zone; and
11 WHEREAS, Whatcom County Council has in the past designated areas as no shooting
12 zones in the interest of public health, safety and welfare;
13 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that a new
14 section of the Whatcom County Code 9.32 be added to create a new no shooting zone,
15 described as follows:
16 A. No shooting zone number [number to be assigned by Code revisor] also is known as
17 the Nelson Road Area.
18 B. The boundaries are described as follows: The east half of Section 17, township 38
19 north, range 5 east of W.M., except the south 300 feet thereof. All in Whatcom County,
20 Washington.
