RESOLUTION NO. 80 -62
A RESOLUTION IN THE MATTER OF ENDORSING GENERAL REVENUE
SHARING
WHEREAS, -the Congress of the United States is considering
legislation which will extend the General Revenue Sharing
Program; and
WHEREAS, the program, which expired on September 30, 1980,
must be reauthorized during the session beginning November
12, 1980; and
WHEREAS, 5 -2574 and HR -7112 .call for this reauthorization
and the President has indicated support for the program's
continuation; and
WHEREAS, the General Revenue Sharing Program has the low-
est administrative costs of any of the federal assistance
programs, is distributed on a fair and equitable basis,
and provides recipient jurisdictions,much needed flexibility
in delivering locally determined services and programs; and
WHEREAS, Whatcom County has been funding many valuable
projects and services with this fund such as Senior Services,
Solid Waste Disposal, and Law Enforcement, and that a .loss
of this funding would critically curtail these vital areas
of local government;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF WHATCOM
COUNTY, WASHINGTON, that we strongly urge the Congress to take
up and pass, and the President to sign, legislation reauthorizing
the General Revenue Sharing Program.
