4 RESOLUTION NO. 80 -19
5 A_.RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT,
THROUGH THE COUNTY EXECUTIVE, TO ERECT A "THRU TRAFFIC
6 LIMITATION" SIGN AT EUCLID AND LAKEWAY DRIVE.
7 WHEREAS, a problem exists whereby an excessive amount of
8 traffic uses Euclid Avenue for thru traffic purposes, and
9 ; WHEREAS, Euclid Avenue is a narrow, winding residential
10 street where excessive traffic could cause a hazard, and
11 WHEREAS, this problem was discussed by the former County
12 Commissioners and City of Bellingham officials, and
13 WHEREAS, the City of Bellingham, subsequent to these
14 discussions, did erect a "Thru Traffic Limitation" sign on the
15 elli.ngham end of Euclid Avenue, and
16 WHEREAS, the residents of the area requested by letter
17 dated January 23, 1980-to the County Executive to erect such a
18 sign on the County end of Euclid, and
19 WHEREAS, said letter was presented.to the County Council
20 by the Executive on January 24, 1980 and Council minutes state
21 "The Executive has handled this matter" (perhaps a misunderstanding),

23 WHEREAS, the Public Safety and Public Works Committees
24 authorized and.requested'Ithe Executive to cause erection.of such,a
25 sign as indicated in both Committees'minutes dated February 21'1
26 1980, and
27 'WHEREAS, no sign had been erected as of the public Safety
28 Committee Meeting of March 1, 1980 when citizens again requested
29 ction on the matter, and
30 WHEREAS, the Executive has asked for official action bV the

full Council requesting the subject sign.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Wh4tcom County

Council respectfully requests the County Executive,to cause a sign: -
to be erected at the earliest possible time at the intersection of
Euclid Avenue and Lakeway Drive that reads "THRU TRAFFIC USE LAKE-
WAY DRIVE" with an appropriate arrow similar to that erected by the
City of Bellingham on the City end of Euclid Avenue.
