HomeMy WebLinkAboutres1986-045INTRODUCED BY: Consent 1 PROPOSED BY: County Executive 2 DATE: August 21, 1986 3 4 5 RESOLUTION NO. 86 -45 6 RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH A CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE FOR WHATCOM COUNTY 7 8 9 WHEREAS, the State of Washington will celebrate its one - hundredth birthday on November 11, 1989; and, 10 WHEREAS, the State Centennial Commission is developing a statewide 11 celebration for the 1989 centennial year; and, 12 WHEREAS, the State Centennial Commission is encouraging all Washington communities to participate in the year -long celebration 13. and to establish local centennial committees to organize and develop local activities; and, 14 WHEREAS, Whatcom County has a rich heritage and serves as the 15 northwest gateway to Washington State; and, 16 WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council has resolved that the Whatcom Museum of History and Art serves the heritage needs of Whatcom 17 County as its official museum, 18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom Museum of History and Art be established as the agency responsible for the planning, 19 implementation and coordination of the Centennial Celebration for Whatcom County. 20 The organization for the Centennial Celebration for Whatcom County 21 shall be established in the following manner: 22 The Museum Director, with the concurrence of the Museum Commission, shall recruit and appoint a Steering Committee of no 23 more than nine members, of which one will be designated as the Chairman by the Museum Director. 24 The Museum Director and the Steering Committee shall appoint a 25 larger Whatcom County Centennial Committee of no more than thirty members to include representatives from county towns, ethnic or 26 interest groups and other appropriate constituencies identified by the Steering Committee or the Whatcom County Council. 27 The Whatcom Museum of History and Art, as the official agency 28 responsible for the Centennial Celebration in Whatcom County, shall be designated to receive the County Centennial Planning 29 monies available from the State. These monies will be used to assist in the planning and conduct of centennial activities. A 30 separate budget will be established for handling these monies.
