HomeMy WebLinkAboutres1987-0271 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION Introduced by: Johnson Proposed by: Johnson Date: June 18, 1987 RESOLUTION NO. 87 -27 A RESOLUTION IN THE NATTER OF COUNCIL REQUEST AND ADVICE TO THE PARK BOARD WHEREAS, providing some forms of leisure services is a legitimate responsibility of government; and WHEREAS, in view of diminishing resource opportunities there is a need to form coalitions of agencies to plan and invest in park and recreation opportunities for the future and to protect our outdoor heritage; and WHEREAS, local elected officials should have an opportunity to exercise leadership in defining a vision of the future and building a plan of action; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Park and Recreation Board be requested and advised to continue with its presently - established plan for the public hearings on the draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Sumas Mountain Project, so as to conform to legally established procedures; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, upon completion of the public hearings on the draft Environmental Impact Statement and completion of the final Environmental Impact Statement, the Whatcom County Park and Recreation Board shall take no action until the Council shall make a decision as to whether or not to allow the Board to proceed.
