HomeMy WebLinkAboutres1988-054INTRODUCED BY: Consent PROPOSED BY: Consent DATE: Nov. 3. 1988 RESOLUTION NO. 88 -54 IN APPRECIATION OF A LATIN AMERICAN DELEGATION'S VISIT TO WHATCOM COUNTY AND EXPRESSING GOOD WILL TOWARD THE VISITORS' RESPECTIVE NATIONS WHEREAS, 1988 is an election year for the U.S. President and for numerous other state and national positions; and WHEREAS, the United States Information Agency has invited a number of distinguished citizens of Central American nations to visit the United States and witness the processes used in the election of our officials; and WHEREAS, Whatcom County is honored to be included in the itinerary of said visitors and for having the opportunity to demonstrate democracy in action in a small community in the state of Washington. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council expresses its appreciation for the honor of this visit by Ricardo GONZALES Vargas of Costa Rica; Miguel Angel MONTEPEQUE of Guatemala; Walter Reinery CASTELLANOS Sauceda of Honduras; Tomas ARITA Valle of Honduras; and Ms. Maria Olimpia de OBALDIA of Panama; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Council extends to each of these visitors and to the citizens of their respective nations its sincere wishes for peace and a lasting friendship between our nations and citizens thereof.
