RESOLUTION NO. 88 -36
A RESOLUTION IN THE MATTER OF
SUBMITTING TO THE VOTERS, A PROPOSAL TO
AUTHORIZE A ONE YEAR EXCESS LEVY FOR REPAIR
AND MAINTENANCE IMPROVEMENTS FOR FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
FOR THE WHATCOM COUNTY PARR AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Park and Recreation Board has
identified a comprehensive list of repair and maintenance
requirements for the County's existing parks and recreation
facilities and equipment; and,
(WHEREAS, the ongoing year -to -year financial support for parks and
recreation has not been adequate to fully address the repair and
maintenance needs of the existing equipment and facilities; and,
WHEREAS, the County has an obligation to adequately maintain its
existing facilities and replace equipment when necessary; and,
WHEREAS, RCW 84.52.052 authorizes the County to exceed existing
property tax levy limits when approved by the electors;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council
shall present to the Auditor's Office a proposition to be placed
on the ballot for the election to be held on the 20th of
September, 1988; and said proposition shall state as follows:
PARK AND SENIOR CENTER REPAIR
REPLACEMENT AND IMPROVEMENT LEVY
Shall Whatcom County impose a one -time, one year
excess property tax levy in 1989, for repair,
replacement, improvements and maintenance of existing
facilities and equipment for parks, recreation
equipment and senior centers in the amount of
$2,500,000 for an approximate levy rate of $.625 per
$1,000 assessed value (based upon 100% of true and
fair value) as specified in Resolution # 88 -36?
