HomeMy WebLinkAboutres1988-0271 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13. 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 INTRODUCED BY: Consent PROPOSED BY: County Executive Lai T DATE: May 19, 1988 RESOLUTION NO. 88 -27 RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE PROJECT OF THE LUMMI INDIAN TRIBE TO DEVELOP A 65 -ACRE COMMERCIAL MOORAGE BASIN ON THE RESERVATION WHEREAS, commercial fishing and pleasure boating are an important basis of the economy of Whatcom County; and, WHEREASt provision of proper moorage facilities is extremely critical to the protection, maintenance and upkeep of these vessels, and moorage space is at a premium in the County; and, WHEREAS, the Lummi Indian Tribe has plans for an economic development initiative of major importance to both the Tribe, the Port of Bellingham and to Whatcom County which will address this rapidly growing need; and, WHEREAS, the Lummi Tribe lacks the financial tools to develop port infrastructure and facilities, and therefore plans to approach the Congress of the United States for funding, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that The Whatcom County Council, in recognition of the importance of this project to the Tribe and to the County as a whole, fully supports and endorses this project.
