RESOLUTION NO. 88 -26
A RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 87 -29,
A RESOLUTION TO EXTEND THE OPERATION OF THE
CEDARVILLE LANDFILL SITE FOR RECEIVING
PUTRESCIBLE GARBAGE FROM JUNE 30, 1988 TO
DECEMBER 31, 1988.
WHEREAS, Whatcom County has the responsibility for the protection of
the public health, safety and disposal of solid waste that has accumulated
within Whatcom County; and
WHEREAS, Whatcom County has an existing landfill site commonly known as
Cedarville; and
WHEREAS, THE Whatcom County Council has received and is presently
reviewing the Revised Comprehensive Solid Waste Plan; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 87 -8 requires closure of the Cedarville land-
fill site by June 30, 1987; and
WHEREAS, there presently exists an emergency due to the temporary clo-
sure of one of the two solid waste incinerating sites within Whatcom County; and
WHEREAS, the other incinerator site is not presently equipped to pro-
cess all the putrescible garbage within Whatcom County;
NOW, THEREFORE.BE IT RESOLVED that Section 1 is hereby amended as
follows:
1. 1The Whatcom County Council deems it necessary to extend operation
of the Cedarville landfill site for receiving putrescible garbage from June 30,
1988 to December 31, 1988.
2. The Whatcom County Council requests that the administration
explore alternative disposition of waste with Skagit County, or at other sites.
3. The Whatcom County Council requests that the people of Whatcom
County will, to the best of their ability, take responsibility to limit the waste
stream by fully utilizing all methods of recycling to reduce unnecessary waste.
