HomeMy WebLinkAboutres1988-0231 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION INTRODUCED BY: PROPOSED BY: DATE: Burton COG April 21, 1988 RESOLUTION NO. 88 -23 RESOLUTION IN THE HATTER OF JURISDICTIONAL SUPPORT FOR WATER QUALITY PLANNING WHEREAS, elected officials within the County of Whatcom agree that water resources are an essential, and therefore mutually important, asset to all jurisdictions in Whatcom County; and, WHEREAS, elected officials recognize that it is in the best interest of the citizens of Whatcom County to have regional water quality planning; and, WHEREAS, watershed identification and ranking is an important component of regional water quality planning; and, WHEREAS, a local watershed ranking process is the first step in identifying the locations of watersheds and the most serious problems; and WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council of Governments will identify and inventory local watersheds and facilitate a county- wide committee that will prioritize the watersheds according to need for protection; and WHEREAS, local elected officials recognize that currently funding for clean -up projects is not available locally, and has not been identified for the future; and, I WHEREAS, this resolution represents commitment to an information - gathering process, not a commitment to fund future projects. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in a spirit of cooperation with other Whatcom County jurisdictions to protect the water quality in streams, lakes, and coastal waters of Whatcom County the Whatcom County Council does hereby endorse the i concepts outlined herein and agrees to work closely with the Whatcom County Council of Governments throughout the watershed ranking process.
