5 RESOLUTION NO. 89 -111
6 A RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE WHATCOM COUNTY PARK
7 AND RECREATION BOARD TO WORK WITH THE VIETNAM
8 VETERANS OF AMERICA, CHAPTER 165, TO DEVELOP
9 A "VIETNAM VETERANS PARK AREA"
10 WHEREAS, the veterans of the war in Vietnam, who embraced through
11 sacrifice and service to country the most fundamental and cherished
12 bonds of our democracy, reaffirm that commitment to spirit and
13 ideals, accepting it as the solemn responsibility of our survival,
14 to bear the burden of what has bsen so that what was once endured
15 can never be forgotten; and,
16 WHEREAS, Vietnam Veterans of Amsrica is the largest national
17 service organization devoted exclusively to Vietnam Veterans; and,
18 WHEREAS, Vietnam Veterans of America has volunteers to work to help
19 accomplish a fitting memorial park or facility;
20 WHEREAS, park planning and design and location are issues involving
21 particularly the capability of Whatcom County Park and Recreation
n2 Board and staff;
23 NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Whatcom County Council
24 hereby requests the Whatcom County Park and Recreation Board and
25 staff to work with Vietnam Veterans of America to explore and
26 determine the feasibility of developing a park or memorial facility
27 including recommendations as to nature in scope, location,
28 development and funding, and ongoing maintenance issues and to
29 report thereon to the Council as soon as practicable.
