RESOLUTION NO. 89-99
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION
AND FINANCING OF A NEW FOUR -STORY ADDITION TO THE
WHATCOM COUNTY COURTHOUSE TO PROVIDE FOR JUVENILE
DETENTION FACILITY AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES
WHEREAS, it has been determined prudent and in the public interest to proceed
with the construction of an addition to the Whatcom County Courthouse to meet the
present and future demands of County government, and
WHEREAS, County Council Resolution No. 89 -59 authorized the County
Administration to proceed as expeditiously as possible on the financing, design and
construction of said structure, and
WHEREAS, the Administration has presented to the County Council a preliminary
cost analysis, the required space projections and funding methods,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the County Council requests that the
administration proceed with the financing, design and specifications for the
construction of a four -story addition to the south side of the Courthouse for housing
of the County administration and a juvenile detention facility, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Council concurs with the method of
financing to be Councilmatic General Obligation Bonds. It requests the Administration
to proceed with the necessary steps for the issue of such bonds or other interim
financing to fund the new addition as stated herein and as previously approved by the
County Council.
