2 ADOPTING A SALARY SCHEDULE FOR THE
3 WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL
4 WHEREAS, it is necessary to establish the salaries of the Whatcom County
5 Council and to update the salary schedule adopted in August of 1987, in Resolution
6 87 -35; and
7 WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Charter prohibits any Council Member from
8 receiving a salary in excess of 15 percent of the County Executive's salary; and
9 WHEREAS, the 35th and 54th amendments to the Constitution of the State of
10 Washington prevent County Council Members from receiving any pay increase during
11 a term in office;
12 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council
13 that pursuant to the authority contained in Chapter 88 Section 2 Laws of the State of
14 Washington 1973, 1st Extra Session, the compensation to be paid to the office of
15 Whatcom County Council Members shall be established according to the following
16 schedule and the salaries adopted for 1990 -1992 in Resolution 87 -35 are changed as
17 indicated:
18 1992 - '9,896±a per year per Council Member
19 1993 - $12,000 per year per Council Member
20 1994 - $12,500 per year per Council Member
21 The salary paid to Council Members shall not exceed 15 percent of the
22 Executive's salary in any given year, notwithstanding the approval of this resolution.
