EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO DR. FRANK JAMES, HEALTH OFFICER,
AND HIS STAFF FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN THE RECENT
HEPATITIS A HEALTH EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, the recent threat of an outbreak of Hepatitis A touched the
lives of about 18 percent of Whatcom County's residents; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Frank James, during his first week as Whatcom County Health
Officer, was faced with coordinating an inoculation effort that eventually
resulted in more than 21,000 people receiving shots; and
WHEREAS, the Health Department staff, chief among them Janet Davis, Jan
Dahl and Paul Chudek, worked many long hours to administer the inoculations at
five clinics in the area, sometimes at the rate of 800 shots per hour; and
WHEREAS, as part of this massive effort the Health Department
coordinated the volunteer assistance offered by many local groups and
individuals, among them private physicians, Haggen Incorporated, Visiting
Nurses, Whatcom Pathology Lab, U.S. Army National Guard, the Army Reserves,
American Red Cross, and various courier services;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council applauds
the hard work and dedication demonstrated by Health Department employees in
this recent health emergency, and particularly commends Dr. James for his
coordination of the inoculation effort.
