(Y/N) Requested Date: RECOMMENDED MOTION (for final action): CO UNCIL ACTION TAKEN Related File Numbers: Ordinance or Resolution Number (this item only): R91 -085 FEW phones.ms 11/19/91 SPONSORED BY: Warner PROPOSED BY: Council Member -Elect Barbara Brenner INTRODUCTION DATE: 11 -26 -91 1 RESOLUTION NO. 91 -085 2 EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR COUNTY -WIDE TOLL -FREE CALLING 3 WHEREAS, Whatcom County is concerned about the need to provide efficient, 4 effective government for its citizens; and 5 WHEREAS, communication with county residents, while a significant part of 6 government efficiency, has been a costly exercise for citizens and government agencies due 7 to the three separate toll calling areas within Whatcom County; and 8 WHEREAS, the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission has been 9 made aware of the County Council's concerns about County -wide toll free service options 10 in the past; and 11 WHEREAS, the proposed extended area service routes under consideration by the 12 Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission include toll -free calling to among the 13 Bellingham, Acme, Deming, Ferndale and Laurel areas only; and .4 WHEREAS, this proposal only partially addresses the needs and concerns of 15 Whatcom County government and the citizens it serves; and 16 WHEREAS, the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission is having an 17 open meeting on November 20, at which time local telephone companies will be requesting 18 approval of the proposed routes; 19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that this 20 body supports County -wide toll -free phone service and requests the Washington Utilities and 21 Transportation Commission to give Whatcom County special consideration for such service. 22 APPROVED this 26th day of November, 1991. 23 24 ATTEST: WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL WHATCOM COUNTY, WASHINGTON 26 II Ra ona Reeves, Co ncil Clerk Daniel M.
