ATTACHMENTS: Public Hearing Needed? Yes 1 No ( Due to the continuing erosion along certain sections of Lummi Shore Drive, the roadway may need to be reduced to one -way travel in order to ensure traffic safety. Related File Numbers: Ordinance or Resolution Number: R E S 91— 0 7 0 Sponsored by: Consent Proposed by: Public Works Administration Date: 9/10/91 RESOLUTION NO. 9.1- 070 WHATCOM COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS, DIVISION OF MAINTENANCE & OPERATIONS WILL CREATE ONE -LANE SECTIONS ON LUM II SHORE DRIVE WHEREAS, Lummi Shore Drive is showing evidence of bank erosion to the extent that two -lane traffic may soon no longer be considered safe in several areas between Smokehouse Road and Scott Road and; WHEREAS, several unsuccessful attempts have been made to obtain additional right -of -way from the Lummi Tribe to allow the widening of the roadway and; WHEREAS, the cost of repairing the south bank area where erosion has eaten several portions of the roadway to the asphalt edge is prohibitive and; WHEREAS, current funding levels do not allow for expenditures of that magnitude now; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Whatcom County Maintenance & Operations, Division of Public Works provide the necessary equipment, curbs, barricades, signs and other materials to create one -lane sections of road where required to maintain safe travel on the erosional sections of roadway and; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED if further erosion continues which renders the roadway unsafe to single lane travel in certain areas that other measures including possible closure or one -way travel be instituted as necessary; subject, however, to further Council approval.
