SUMMARY STATEMENT.•
The law does not allow the Sumas River Flood Control Zone District to exist as it is currently formed if
the County implements a County -wide Flood Control Zone District. Therefore the District as it currently
exists would need to be dissolved. It could then be incorporated as part of the County -wide program.
This resolution sets a hearing on the dissolution.

1 RESOLUTION NO. 91 -068
2 RESOLUTION SETTING A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE DISSOLUTION OF THE
3 SUMAS RIVER FLOOD CONTROL ZONE DISTRICT
4 WHEREAS, there is support for the creation of a countywide flood control zone
5 district in Whatcom County; and,
6 WHEREAS, a flood control zone district may not include an area located in another
7 zone unless the zone is dissolved; and,
8 WHEREAS, the Sumas River Flood Control Zone District is located in Whatcom
9 County and would therefore need to be dissolved to permit the creation of a countywide
10 flood control zone district; and,
11 WHEREAS, upon the establishment of a countywide flood control zone district the
12 board may divide any or all of the zone so created into separately designated subzones; and,
13 WHEREAS, the Sumas River Flood Control Zone District, once dissolved, will be
14 subsequently proposed for creation as the Sumas River Sub -Flood Control Zone District;
15 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that the
16 date of September 24, 1991 at 7:00 p.m., be set for the hearing of the dissolution of the
17 Sumas River Flood Control Zone District.
