SUMMARY STATEMENT-
Disposal of lawn and garden waste may threaten wetlands. Council - support
efforts of the Puget Sound Water Quality Auhtority to fund the Wetlands
Education Model Projects Fund for Sandy Point.

2 DECLARING SUPPORT FOR THE SANDY POINT
3 COMMUNITY WETLANDS PROJECT
4 WHEREAS, the improper disposal of lawn and garden waste may threaten
5 wetlands and the recycling of lawn and garden wastes are appreciated by all as
6 preferential way of dealing with disposal of these items; and
7 WHEREAS, the protection of wetlands is a step that is beneficial to both man
8 and wildlife, and the recycling of wastes helps to preserve wetlands; and
9 WHEREAS, education is an extremely important part of the process of both
10 recycling and understanding the importance of environmental preservation;
11 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that
12 the Council supports efforts of increasing public education on environmental matters and
13 urges the Puget Sound Water Quality Authority to fund the Sandy Point Community
14 Wetlands Education Project, through the auspices of the Public Involvement and
5 Education Model Projects Fund.
