SUMMARY STATEMENT.-
The State Department of Revenue can provide computer listings of all registered businesses in Whatcom
County, at no charge to the County. This would provide the County with a method of tracldng businesses.

s REQUESTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO ESTABLISH
6 A DATABASE OF BUSINESSES IN WHATCOM COUNTY
7 WHEREAS, Whatcom County has no procedure currently in place to track
s businesses that operate within the county; and
9 WHEREAS, County operations such as the County Auditor, Sheriff Department,
10 Planning Department and other Departments and Committees have, on occasion, a need
11 to access a listing of said businesses and such access could provide benefits to the operation
12 of the County and its citizens; and
13 WHEREAS, the State of Washington Department of Revenue requires all businesses
14 to register with the State; and
is WHEREAS, the Department of Revenue has indicated the ability to provide a
16 computer accessible listing of all registered businesses that reside in Whatcom County on
17 a regular basis, at no charge to Whatcom County;
18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that the
19 Administration is' requested to present the Council with costs and benefits of the
20 implementation of a business database that could be used by County operations, and this
21 information to be presented the Council by the third meeting in September .
