SUMMARY STATEMENT,•
The Deming Diking District formation election resulted in 85.8 percent approval. According to
RCW 85.38.070 the county legislative authority shall appoint the initial three - member governing body who
shall serve until the next special district general election, in this case until February 4, 1992.
The Steering Committee nominated Harry Williams, Tom Hayden, and Gene Aarstol.
ORIGINATOR'S RECOMMENDED ACTION.
Deming Dildng District Steering Committee recommends appointment as indicated in the resolution.

2 APPOINTING THE 11*4MAL MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNING
3 BODY OF THE DEMING DHUNG DISTRICT
4 WHEREAS, the Deming Diking District was recently formed with an 85.8 percent
5 favorable vote from residents within its boundaries; and
6 WHEREAS, Chapter 85.38.070 (3) of the Revised Code of Washington states that
7 when a new district is formed within a county, the legislative authority of that county must
8 appoint the initial members of the governing body for the special district; and
9 WHEREAS, the Deming Diking District Steering Committee recommended three
10 candidates for appointment, and the Council concurs with the recommendation; and
11 WHEREAS, those initially appointed to the governing board will serve until the next
12 special district general election; .
13 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that
14 Harry Williams, Tom Hayden, and Gene Aarstol are hereby appointed as the initial
15 members of the Deming Diking District governing board; and
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the three commissioners will serve until the
17 next special district general election on February 4, 1992.
