Yes / -/No /.nL1 SUMMARY STATEMENT: Whatcom County experienced several large doses of Mother Nature's fury this winter, which resulted in many organizations and individuals putting in long, arduous hours to provide shelter, keep roads passable, and keep businesses, government agencies and homes operating as usual. The resolution provides recognition to all of these groups and individuals; the certificates of appreciation are tailored for presentation to individual County departments and divisions. RES91 -007 SPONSORED BY: Consent PROPOSED BY: Hansey INTRODUCTION DATE: 2/5/91 RFCOGNIaNG THE EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE OF COUNTY EMPLOYEES, CITIZEN VOLUNTEERS, CORPS OF ENGINEERS, NATIONAL GUARD AND PUGET POWER EMPLOYEES WHEREAS, from November 9 through December 31, 1990, Whatcom County was faced with numerous emergencies relating to floods, snow, high winds and severe cold weather causing extensive damage to public and private properties and a threat to the welfare of Whatcom County citizens, disrupting transportation and causing emergency evacuation of residents and the closing of schools, commercial, industrial and public offices; and WHEREAS, Emergency Services employees issued flood warnings, conducted life- saving rescue operations, established shelters for the protection of life and property, and WHEREAS, Public Works employees performed exceptionally in responding to the needs of Whatcom County citizens during the emergencies in coordination with citizen volunteers, Puget Power employees, the U.S. Corps of Engineers and the National Guard to minimize damage and the threat to life and property, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council hereby commends and recognizes County employees, citizen volunteers and agencies that participated and performed exceptionally in this critical period, including Emergency Services, the Sheriff, Public Works, Parks, citizen volunteers, Corps of Engineers, National Guard, Puget Power and other utilities; and - BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be entered upon the record and the Clerk of the Council be requested to forward copies of same to these employees and agencies as an expression of the County Council's thanks for exceptional work performed.
