1 RESOLUTION NO. 92-074
2 RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE LET'S POOL TOGETHER COMMITTEE PLAN
3 TO DEVELOP A COMMUNITY AQUATIC CENTER
4 WHEREAS, a Let's Pool Together Committee has organized to develop a
5 Community Aquatic Center in Bellingham; and
6 WHEREAS, the 1989 Whatcom County Comprehensive Park and Recreation Open
7 Space Plan Comprehensive Plan recognized the public's "very strong interest in indoor
8 swimming" and further recommended "that a multi -use recreation aquatic complex be
9 developed... somewhere in the Bellingham urban areas "; and.
10 WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council feels that a publicly -run community
11 swimming pool is needed in Whatcom County, although one does not,exist at this time;
12 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that the
13 County Council endorses the concept of establishing a public pool in Whatcom County; and
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Parks and Recreation
15 Department is hereby requested to explore funding and grant options to generate up to
16 $200,000 in funding for such a project for 1994.
