5 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR FUNDING
6 ASSISTANCE FOR AN OUTDOOR RECREATION PROJECT TO THE
7 WASHINGTON STATE INTERAGENCY COMMITTEE FOR OUTDOOR
8 RECREATION (I.A.C.) AS PROVIDED BY THE MARINE RECREATION
9 LAND ACT.
10 WHEREAS, Whatcom County Council has approved a "Comprehensive Park and
11 Recreation Open Space Plan" for Whatcom County and "Preserving a Way of Life ": A Natural
12 Heritage, for the urban area which identifies urban development trail areas as a high priority; and,
13 WHEREAS, under the provisions of the Marine Recreation Act, state and federal funding
14 assistance has been authorized and made available to aid in financing the cost of land for parks
15 and habitat conservation areas and the construction of outdoor recreational facilities of local
16 public bodies; and,
17 WHEREAS, Whatcom County considers it in the best public interest to acquire an urban
18 trail area property in the southern part of the County generally known as "Chuckanut Mountain ".
19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Whatcom County Council, Whatcom
20 County, Washington,
21 1. That the County Executive be authorized to make formal application to the
22 Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation for funding assistance,
23 2. That any fund assistance so received be used in the acquisition of 140 acres of
24 prime park land on Chuckanut Mountain in the southern part of Whatcom County,
25 Washington,
26 3. That the County's share of the project will be derived from Conservation Future
27 Funds,
28 4. That any property acquired with financial aid through the Interagency Committee
29 for Outdoor Recreation be placed in use as an outdoor recreation facility and be
30 retained in such use in perpetuity unless as otherwise provided and agreed to by
31 the County Council, the Interagency Committee for - Outdoor Recreation, and any
32 affected federal agency, and

5. That this resolution become part of a formal application to the Interagency
Committee for Outdoor Recreation.
6. That adequate notification has been given and opportunity provided for public
input and that published notices have identified affected flood plains and/or
wetlands, if applicable. -
ADOPTED this 28th day of July , 1992.
