- ,clonal Transportation Week is May 11 through 15, and the Whatcom County Council of Governments is urging
local jurisdictions to participate and to declare May 14 as "Alternative Transportation Day." On this day, citizens
will be encouraged to use modes of transportation which conserve fuel, help keep our air clean, and reduce
traffic congestion.
This declaration would be made jointly by the Council and by the County Executive.

2 PROCLAIMING MAY 149 1992 AS. "ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION DAY'
3 AND ENCOURAGING PARTICIPATION BY COUNTY EMPLOYEES
4 WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council of Governments is sponsoring alternative
5 Transportation Day on May 14, 1992 as part of its Urban Transportation Planning effort and
6 to coincide with National Transportation Week (May 11 -15); and
7 WHEREAS, in commemoration of Alternative Transportation Day, the Whatcom
8 County Council of Governments is encouraging citizens to use modes of transportation
9 which conserve fuel, help keep our air clean, and reduce traffic congestion; and
10 WHEREAS, Whatcom County government would like to encourage its employees
11 and officials to participate whole - heartedly in this effort;
12 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council and
13 the Whatcom County Executive jointly proclaim May 14, 1992 as Alternative Transportation
14 Day for Whatcom County; and
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Whatcom County employees and officials are
16 hereby encouraged to participate in Alternative Transportation Day by using modes of
17 transportation such as walking, taking the bus, car - pooling, and riding bicycles, in order to
18 help protect clean air, reduce traffic congestion, and conserve fuel.
