Each year, in accordance with State law, the Council is required to select an official newspaper for legal
advertisement publication. To start the process, the Council must direct the Auditor to advertise for bid
pr- nosals from qualified newspapers; this advertisement must be published at least five weeks prior to the
Ting at which the County will decide who gets the contract. The Council is scheduled to make a decision
on the contract award in April.

3 DIRECTING THE AUDITOR TO ADVERTISE A CALL FOR BIDS FOR
4 THE COUNTY'S OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER

7 WHEREAS, RCW 36.72.075 requires the County Council to contract with a legal.
8 newspaper to serve one year as the official county newspaper beginning on the first day
9 of July; and

11 WHEREAS, said statute requires the County Auditor to advertise for bid
12 proposals from qualified legal newspapers interested in serving as the official county
13 newspaper; and

15 WHEREAS, said advertisement shall be made at least five weeks before the
16 meeting at which the Council shall let the contract for the official county newspaper;

19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that
7 the County Auditor is directed to issue a call for bids for the official County newspaper
L1 for the year beginning July 1, 1993 and ending June 30, 1994, both dates inclusive. Said
22 bids will be opened, read aloud and considered at 9 a.m. Monday, April 5, 1993 in the
23 Executive's Conference Room, Courthouse 2nd floor, Bellingham.
