NO xx/ YES / / Requested date: April 18 through -14 k National Volunteer Week and April 20 is the first ever National Volunteer Day, according to the Whatcom County RSVP Volunteer Center newsletter for April 1994. The Council has itself benefitted greatly from the long -term dedication of Jean Tusing and Vi Wilson,. two RSVP volunteers who have helped with our mailings for many years now, and the shorter -term services of RSVP volunteers such as Linda Hughes and Mark Pilder and many others. Other County Departments have enjoyed the results of volunteerism in our r -)mmunity as well. For those reasons the County Council may wish to consider passing this resolution ,claiming April 18 through 24 as Whatcom County Volunteer Week, and encouraging all County departments and agencies who benefit in any way from the services provided by volunteers to offer recognition and thanks for those efforts. If adopted, a copy of this signed and sealed Resolution will be presented to each of the Council Office volunteers, and similar copies will be made available to other departments requesting them for their volunteers. CLERK'S RECOMMENDED MOTION (for final action): "I move that the Council pass the resolution proclaiming April 18 to 24 as Whatcom County Volunteer Week." Related File Numbers: Ordinance or Resolution Number (this item only): P,0� 9 -I-ba4 volunt.res 3/30/94 SPONSORED BY: Imhof PROPOSED BY: Council Clerk INTRODUCTION DATE: 4112194 1 RESOLUTION NO. 94 -024 2 PROCLAIMING APRIL 18 TO 24 AS WHATCOM COUNTY VOLUNTEER WEEK 3 WHEREAS, April 18 through 24 is National Volunteer Week; and 4 WHEREAS, -in 1993 Whatcom County services were enhanced by the efforts of 5 _ volunteers assigned to our County through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program 6 (RSVP), and volunteers have come to the County through other agencies, as well; and 7 WHEREAS, the spirit of volunteerism as exhibited by the people of all ages who 8 assist in providing public services without compensation is something to be valued and 9 recognized by the elected officials, County staff members, and members of the public 10 who benefit so richly from those efforts; and 11 WHEREAS, the Whatcom County RSVP Volunteer Center's efforts to spur and 12 nurture volunteerism in people of all ages in Whatcom County are commendable; 13 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Council that 14 April 18 through 24 is hereby proclaimed to be Whatcom County Volunteer Week; and 15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all County departments and agencies who 16. benefit in any way from the services provided by volunteers are encouraged to offer 17 recognition and thanks to_ those hard - working and dedicated volunteers; and 18 BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution will be presented to 19 the Whatcom County RSVP Volunteer Center in recognition of their fine efforts on the 20 County's behalf. 21 APPROVED this 12 th day of April , 1994. 22 23 ATTEST: WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL WHATCOM COUNTY, WASHINGTON 24 25 Ramona Reeves, Council Clerk Ro ert Imhof, hair
