SUMMARY STATEMENT- Please complete sections of box as appropriate & explain the item below line item The Whatcom Museum of History and Art is engaging in a capital project to preserve and maintain the Victorian -era main museum building. Whatcom County has been asked to support the project with a contribution of $95,000.00 over a two year period to cover window repair. This resolution is a statement of support from the Whatcom County Council for an appropriation in the in the amount of $55,000.00 from the 1996 and $40,000.00 from the 1997 Convention Center Fund budget, totalling a $95,000.00 contribution. OMMITTEE ACTION TAKEN: )UNCIL ACTION TAKEN. - 10/31/95: Introduced 11/14/95: Approved 7 -0 Related File Numbers: Ordinance or Resolution Number (this item only): Res. 95 -07 SPONSORED BY: Consent PROPOSED BY: Executive INTRODUCTION DATE: 10131/95 RESOLUTION NO. 95 -073 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING A FUNDING CONTRIBUTION FROM WHATCOM COUNTY FOR THE WHATCOM MUSEUM OF HISTORY AND ART WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council recognizes the role played by the Whatcom Museum of History and Art both as a major tourist attraction, and in contributing to the quality of life in Whatcom County; and, WHEREAS, the Council understands the importance of preserving and maintaining the Victorian -era main museum building as the centerpiece structure of a four building cultural campus; and, WHEREAS, the Museum's main building is in need of more than a million dollars in restoration work, including a new roof, window replacements, masonry repair and other items, and the Council has committed to helping with a portion of this; and, WHEREAS, it is the wisest use of taxpayers' money to complete the roofing, window replacement and other projects simultaneously so that the extensive scaffolding only needs to be erected one time. . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County wishes to contribute to the project the full amount estimated for window repair by allocating $55,000 in the 1996 Budget, and states its intent to allocate $40,000 in the 1997 budget. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the funding for this contribution will come from the Convention Center Fund. APPROVED THIS 14 day of November , 1995.
