Whatcom Self -Help Homes would like to work in partnership with the County to create an .opportunity for working families on
their waiting list to build their own homes. They are requesting the County Council authorize the administration to apply for a
community development block grant.

1 RESOLUTION NO. 95 -071
2 REQUESTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO APPLY FOR A COMMUNITY
3 DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT
4 WHEREAS, Whatcom Self -Help Homes would like to work in partnership with the
5 County to create an opportunity for the working families on their waiting list to build their
6 own homes; and
7 WHEREAS, Whatcom Self -Help Homes is asking the County Council to request the
8 administration to apply for a Community Development Block Grant of $500,000 to help with
9 the cost of land acquisition; and
10 WHEREAS, the grant does not require any county funding; and
11 WHEREAS, the grant will pay for any administrative expenses that the County might
12 incur associated with the project; and
13 WHEREAS, the grant will not create a significant administrative_ or legislative
14 burden; and
15 WHEREAS, the grant will have a clear start date of May 1996 and an ending date
16 of December 1996; and
17 WHEREAS, the grant will not create a project or program the County would have
18 to sustain nor will it create any on -going county responsibilities.

1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council
2 requests the administration to apply for a Community Development Block Grant of $500,000
3 to help with the cost of land acquisition for Whatcom Self -Help Homes.
